Our children stood to attention when a soldier mum visited the nursery to talk about the importance of Remembrance Day.
Major Alexandra Petherbridge, of the 6th Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps, came into Baldersby Park to speak to the children about why we mark Remembrance Day each year.
Major Petherbridge, whose daughter Silvia is at Baldersby Park and another daughter Tabitha who used to attend before leaving for school, was dressed in uniform and brought along her army bag with lots of camouflage uniform, gas masks, goggles and more for the children to try on.
“The children asked lots of great questions and really made the teachers proud of how well they behaved.
They really enjoyed trying on some of the different army kit but there was a serious side to it as well because it’s important the children understand why we remember those who gave their lives in the defence of their country.
We would like to say a big thank you to Major Petherbridge for coming in and talking to the children.
We have very supportive parents here at Baldersby Park and it’s great when they come in to talk about their professions as it gives the children an understanding about the different jobs people do in the world and who knows, it may even inspire them to do the same jobs when they are older.
