After a volunteering spell looking after children in Asia and a stint at her mum’s friend’s nursery, Jemima Kitching has decided that childcare is the career for her and has joined Little Pippins as our newest apprentice.

Jemima, who joined us in January, spent three months working in Thailand, Vietnam and Bali before coming back to the UK.

At the suggestion of her mum, she then gained experience at a large nursery in East Yorkshire and decided the best things come in small packages (which we agree with wholeheartedly of course!).

“After the experience abroad and the experience at the nursery owned by my mum’s friend, I thought this was the career for me and now, even though I am just starting my journey, I have already set my sights on owning my own nursery in the future,” says Jemima.

Jemima is starting her Level 3 in Childcare and will gain hands-on, day-to-day experience at Little Pippins whilst also being formally assessed.  She is also keen to set up a gardening club.

“I already love it here,” she says.

“I am working Little Buds at the moment and have also helped out in babies, so am already getting experience working with different age groups.

“There’s obviously more interaction with the older children but to be part of the development of all the children is fantastic.”

When she’s not caring for children, Jemima, 19, cares for cows, helping out at weekends on the dairy farm her boyfriend works at.
